2021 SL Christmas Expo Opens Friday December 3rd

“The 12 Days of Christmas” Helping To Fight Childhood Cancer

Since 2011, the SL Christmas Expo has been “Giving The Gift of Hope”, and is dedicated to children with cancer. The event which supports the American Cancer Society, is the premier Holiday shopping and entertainment event in Second Life. Opening on December 3rd, the “12 Days of Christmas” features more than 150 stores and shoppes, spread over 15 gorgeously designed regions, and brings together merchants, Breedables, entertainers, and volunteers for 12 days of shopping, music, auctions, and holiday special events.  

As always the Holly Jolly Café presents the top performers in Second Life for nearly non-stop entertainment. Buy a ticket for the Holiday Shopping raffles, visit the Christmas Tree Lot and the Merchant village or stop for a Picture With Santa.

Once again, American Cancer Society partner Linden Lab will take part in the Expo with special surprises and events.  Take a picture with Santa Patch & the Elf Moles, get a Limited Edition Patch on a Shelf elf, and check out the newest Linden Homes at the 2021 winter reveal region.

And don’t forget to check out the Holiday Lights at The Lights of Hope home decorating competition, returning once again for 2021. The Lights of Hope regions feature homes decorated for the holidays by some of the best home designers in Second Life and an entire region of Linden Homes decorated by Lindens and Moles. So, most people really have no idea why we celebrate Labor Day.  So, I thought it would be a great time to write an article about.  So, before I begin … why do you think we celebrate it?  I have always thought it was an extra day off for labor workers because they worked so hard back in the day. 
 
“Labor Day is an annual celebration of workers and the labor force's achievements. The idea is to recognize and honor the American labor movement and the ways in which American workers have contributed to the country's success over the years.” (Marca, 2021)
 
Labor Day is the brain child of Peter J. McGuire, a carpenter and labor union leader, who in 1882 thought labor workers needed to be celebrated also.  Peter first proposed his idea to New York’s Central Labor Union and on September 5, 1882 the first Labor Day was celebrated.  Congress made it an official US holiday in 1894.
 
So, Labor Day is the day we get to celebrate and thank people that do the thankless jobs we do not think about.  Those people include, people that work on our roads, railroads, construction, truck drivers, etc. 
 
So I want to say thank you to all the people out there building and transporting our stuff around this big ol’ country.

This is Alexa by Wow Skins.  It is a BOM skin that can fit any body.  It is currently made for Genus and Lelukta.  I am wearing it on the Lelukta Lilly head.  The skin is not designed for the Lel Evo X line.  It is a nice skin.  the body is very smooth and looks well made.  I really like the lips and nose on the face.  I did have issues with the eyebrows but you can fix that.

Today I am wearing orange in remembrance of all the Indigenous children that were ripped from their mother’s arms and sent to residential/ boarding school.  In those schools they were beaten, tortured, raped, and murdered.  Recently, mass graves of children have been found in Canada and the USA.  The first one had over 700 murdered children.  Our people still tell stories and have nightmares over what happen.  White people literally broke into their homes and stole their children.  They were then taken to these “schools” to be “re-education”.  In other words, white men took Indigenous children and tried to wash away their traditions, language, and beliefs.  They tried to make them white so it would be easier to take the land.  My people will never forget!
 
Today we were orange to remember every man, women, and children that was murdered due to gun violence.  Every day in the USA over 100 people die from gun violence.  That is tens of thousands of people each year.  These people should not lose their lives.  In Texas, people can carry a gun with no background check, no training, and no license.  It is disgusting.  We need better laws and people need to go through better background checks.  They should have to go through psychological exams.  We need to stop letting the NRA tell us that guns are so great.  The Second Amendment was not wrote about AK47s and nine millimeters.  The Second Amendment says, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”  In today’s world that would be the National Guard for each state.  Now don’t get me wrong, I am ok with people having guns to a point.  I understand if you live in a really bad area and you need protection.  I understand if you live in the woods and need protection.  What I do not understand is why people are so against background checks.  So today we were orange in hopes that this world will be better.

Today is a hard day for me in real life.  Today marks the 12th year that my cousin and her baby have been gone.  i remember that day like it was this day.  It happened on a Tuesday.  I miss her and the baby my family never got to meet.  Then a few years later my grandmother died.  My grandma was my world.  She meant everything to me.  So on this day I pay respects to Heather, Brodie, my Grandma, Uncle Butch, Aunt Janine, Dada, Molly, Demon, My Nana, and my Pawpaw.  I love you guys and I will see you when I get there.

The Seekers of Hope, Dragons Nightfall, Stormy’s Stars and Elves of Hope RFL teams invite everyone to Fashion Faire, a two week fashion-centered shopping event to benefit Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. 

The event will feature items donated by more than 40 Second Life designers in a spring-themed shopping venue. Items on sale will range from men’s to women’s to children’s as well as dinkies. 

In addition to the shopping, there will be special raffles for gift cards and two full mesh avatars (head and body) - one male and one female - from Altamura. 

Rounding out the event will be select entertainment provided by some of Second Life’s talented live performers.
